Three Common Ageing Signs In Pool Windows And How To Combat Them
Pool windows are a feature that can make you feel as if you are living in a luxury hotel. However, this feeling only lasts for as long as your pool windows look good, and after a few years, your pool windows will start to show signs of ageing. From scratches to unfortunate colour stains, pool windows do tend to show minor imperfections quite obviously due to being see-through. Luckily this does not mean the end of your pool windows' lifespan, far from it. All it takes is a bit of professional service and your windows will look good as new.
Cloudy Vision
The most common sign of wear on a pool window is it simply becoming cloudy over time. Acrylic pool windows (the most common material) show this ageing more obviously than glass panels, but they also have a more obvious solution: polishing. Acrylic pool windows are much easier to polish with special tools that can buff out even the most cloudy of windows. From small, porthole pool windows to whole infinity pool facades, polishing is the only service you need to get the windows looking crystal clear again.
Scratches
Unfortunately, sometimes pool windows can get scratched during installation or adjustment by the tools used to move them into place. They can also get scratched by particularly rough underwater games or even just simple wear and tear from branches and twigs that may find their way into your pool. With glass windows, these scratches are nearly impossible to get out, but acrylic windows always have the option of being buffed out with the aforementioned polishing. That is why most pool window contractors will advise you to get acrylic pool windows: not only are they cheaper and stronger, but they last better too.
Yellowing
Yellowing is distinct from cloudiness because it cannot be fixed by polishing and it indicates that the pool window needs to be replaced. This is most common on acrylic pool windows, which is perhaps one of the only advantages glass pool windows have over them. However, yellowing takes years, generally decades, to present itself as a serious problem, so it is not something to worry about if your pool windows are recently installed. If you have bought an older home with a vintage pool with windows, then you should consider draining it and having new pool windows installed. Modern pool windows have far better construction quality and present most of these signs of ageing very slowly.
